Irish EPA E-coli review of private wells.

Further to our blog highlighting the number of private wells that have an e-coli  bacterial contamination the numbers have been increased by the EPA as the result of a new survey that indicates that 50,000 private wells are contaminated.

The reasons for this increase is the lack of maintenance undertaken by homeowners, incorrect finishes to protect the well head and prevent ingress from surface material and liquids, and the failure to submit water samples for regular analysis.

Private water supplies including those serving rural schools and even hospitals offer some of the States worst quality water the report has warned..

One fifth of the country's population get their drinking water from private small wells. However, small private wells have the worst E-coli contamination levels, significantly behind group water schemes and water direct from the public mains.

Professional treatment can eliminate this problem and ensure acceptable water quality for yourself and your family members.
